Why Retailers Fail

Over the past year many retailers have declared bankruptcy or are beginning to fail. There are many reasons why this could be. One reason may be poor management. Although these retailers are long lasting, they may have always had poor management. Whether it have been management of money, advertisement, or store inventory.

Another reason why retails may be failing is because competition. Now that we are in a recession alot of people are going to the cheapest outlets for goods. When a store has high priced items individuals will choose the store with the least expensive item.

One main reason why retailers may retailers fail is because they fail to adapt, change, grow or expand. When retailers cant adapt they will be stuck in a standstill. When they cant help the consumer or appeal to the consumer, consumers wont purchase goods.

Walgreens

I went to Walgreens on the corner of Spring Garden and Aycock. This pharmacy is in a free standing location. There are no other pharmacies or stores connected to this building, however there is a CVS located about 2 minutes from the store.

I believe that this pharmacy is strategically located because although there is a CVS located minutes away this building is the closest to campus. College students want quick service, fast so they would be more likely to go to Walgreens because it is closest. There is also a bigger parking lot and easy access to get to the store.

I believe that there would be no better location for a pharmacy considering location to campus and the pharmacies target market.

RCS 261 VALS

I believe that the VALS Segments are very accurate. From their descriptions of innovators, thinkers, achievers, experiencers, believers, strivers, makers and survivors they seem to everything well thought out. Every definition i totally agreed with especially their description of experiencers.

I also believe that their definitions of target markets for stores were correct. My groups target market was Old Navy. I believe that this stores target is thinkers, achievers and experiencers. This is because although Old Navy has more conservative clothing it also has so items that are funky, and trendy.

When I took the VALS Segments test I was told that I am an innovator/ experiencer. I believe that this is definitely the correct classification for me. I like experiencing new things, i love new technologies, and i love to stay up to date with the latest fashions. Although I am a compulsive shopper, I would love to make an item instead of buying.

RCS 261- ABOUT FOREVER 21

Forever 21 was founded in 1984 by Don-Wan and Jin-Sook Chang in California. The shop's original name was Fashion 21, however they later changed the name to Forever 21. Within the first year of opening the company sales had risen from $35,000 to $700,000.

Since the beginning of the brand the owners have opened a new shop every six months, and by 1989 the store had expanded 5,000 square feet per store. By 1997 there were 40 Forever 21 stores and the company is now located nationally, with stores in Saudi Arabia, Canada, and Malaysia, to name a few. Average Forever 21 stores are now 9,000 square feet or more.

After the success of Forever 21 the company decided to open Forever XXI stores which sell men and women clothes and accessories. The company now has lines such as Forever 21, Forever XXI, For Love 21, Gadzooks, Heritage, and Twelve by Twelve.

RCS 261 FOREVER 21

My favorite designer is Forever 21. Their inexpensive yet very stylish line of clothes are the perfect addition to one's wardrobe. I love the colors, textures and designs Forever 21 has to offer. It has the perfect outfit for any mood, setting, or event that one may need.

Not only does Forever 21 carry clothes, but it also carries accessories, shoes, cosmetics, and school supplies. The Heritage line of Forever 21 offers a vintage prep look for the days when I want to be comfortable yet classy. It also offers other lines such as "For love 21" which is based around accessories, and "Twelve by Twelve" which gives a more chic and classy look.

My favorite Forever 21 store is in Crabtree Valley Mall in Raleigh, NC. This is because it is very big (like a department store) and they also carry men's clothing, so I can find the perfect outfit for myself and my male friends. I love Forever 21 because of it's style, colors, reasonable prices, and convenience.
